TEMS Community Service Club helps Mainline Meals on Wheels!

Volunteers for "Mainline Meals on Wheels” were able to deliver adorable, pumpkin, Halloween treats to their patrons, thanks to the work of students in the TEMS Community Service Club! The group, consisting of 5th and 6th graders, meets on Monday afternoons.  Students volunteer their time to serve their school and community through acts of kindness and service.  When they are not collecting trash on our fields or sorting the lost and found, they work to create treats and decorated meal bags for the 70 patrons of “Main Line Meals on Wheels,” headquartered in Devon, PA.

We are calling all Bulldogs to gather your gently used middle school and young adult level books for the 2023 TEMS Book Swap. You can drop off your books in bins at the front and back entrances and students will have the opportunity to "shop" for books to take home and read. There is no cost! This is a great opportunity to clean out your bookshelves and find new books to read -- just in time for winter break!

Drop off dates: Monday, 11/20 - Tuesday, 12/5

Book Swap Browsing days: during lunch and activity December 6, 7 and 8

We need volunteers to help sort the books on Tuesday, 12/5 and to supervise the Book Swap during lunch and activity periods on 12/6 - 12/8. Volunteers must have clearances on file with the district. If you are able to help, please sign up here https://www.signupgenius.com/go/60B0A48A4AA2CA5F94-45830075-tems or contact Kerry Reed at kerrymcnabbreed@gmail.com or Jess Melniczak at jmelniczak@gmail.com

When to keep your child home from school

Sometimes it can be challenging to determine when your student should stay home from school and when it is appropriate for them to return following an illness. If you are in doubt, please do not hesitate to contact your school nurse for guidance.

If your student exhibits one or more of the following symptoms, they should stay home for at least one day:

    • Fever (oral/tympanic equal to or greater than 100.4°F or axillary/temporal  greater than 99.5°F)
    • Chills
    • Body aches/fatigue
    • Runny nose or nasal congestion
    • Nausea or vomiting
    • Diarrhea
    • Sore throat
    • Frequent cough
    • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing

Students may return to school once their symptoms have improved AND they have been fever-free without fever-reducing medication for at least 24 hours. Additionally, they need to have not vomited for at least 24 hours.

If they test positive for COVID, please follow CDC guidance for isolation.

Other reasons to keep your student home include:

    • Persistent abdominal pain/ stomachache
    • Undiagnosed rash
    • Inflamed eye(s)

If your student has been diagnosed with either of the following, they can return to school once they have completed 24-hours of the prescribed treatment:

    • Strep Throat
    • Pink eye (bacterial conjunctivitis)

If your student tests positive for influenza, they may return to school:

    • when their symptoms have improved AND they have been fever-free without fever-reducing medication for at least 24 hours.
Child Assistance Resources & Education

If your child is having any trouble either in school or at home, our CARE (Child Assistance Resources & Education) team is here to help. The CARE team consists of a principal, counselors, nurse, school psychologist, mental health specialist, classroom teachers and community agency staff.  The team works to identify issues which pose a barrier to a students’ learning and school success.  If you or someone else notices your student is struggling in an academic, behavior, or social-emotional area of development, you can ask the CARE team to help.

Teachers, parents and students who observe concerning behavior in a student are encouraged to reach out to a CARE team member and submit a referralReferrals can also be made using this link All referrals are confidential and once one has been made, the team will work together to gather information, consult with the parent and student and make recommendations for additional support.

Each of us can make a difference by reducing, reusing, and recycling materials throughout our communities and encouraging our neighbors (and our kids) to do the same.

TEMS Recycling Program

Recycling drop-off are available at TEMS all year!  Bins are located in the main lobby upon entry to the school. We will continue to collect writing instruments (no wooden pencils or crayons please), clean plastic bags, printer cartridges and dental products (toothpaste tubes, toothbrushes, empty floss rolls) in the bins in the front lobby.  Click on this link for more details.

Holiday Light Recycling is also coming up at TEMS.

November 28 - January 12 broken or unwanted lights will be collected in bin in school foyer.

Brought to you by the TESD Green Team. To learn more or get involved, please contact: Tracy at tracyteeselink@aol.com, Val at valcheng@gmail.com or Gaby at gabysnyder@yahoo.com

Along with the recycling bins that the PTO provides, we also have a Conestoga HS group that collects used sneakers. Bins for new, used and gently used sneakers are available in the TEMS lobby.
