SUBJECT: Welcome to TEMS incoming 5th graders

T/E Middle School

Aug 11th, 2024

Welcome to TEMS!

Dear TEMS Parents/Guardians of 5th Graders,

We hope you're enjoying your summer!

This message is from the TEMS PTO. For those new to the district, the TEMS PTO is a volunteer organization dedicated to supporting the administration, staff, and students through programs, fundraising, and events. For more information, visit the TEMS PTO website at temspto.org .

All parents/guardians are automatically added to our weekly blast email distribution list upon enrollment. These emails, sent every Sunday afternoon, keep you informed about school and PTO activities. At the bottom of each email, you'll find useful links to the PTO website, lunch menu, and more. Please whitelist the following email addresses to ensure you don’t miss any communications: temspto@gmail.com and temsptoblast@gmail.com

As we kick off the new school year, the PTO will be hosting a back-to-school supply and spirit wear sale on August 15, 16, and 19. And don’t miss our 'Break the Ice' event on September 13th—it’s a great way to ease into the school year! Mark your calendars, and keep an eye on your inbox for more details.

School officially begins on Monday, August 26th. To help you start the year on the right foot (and maybe with a little less chaos), we've included a few reminders below.

Warmly

TEMS PTO

Schedules & Locker Assignments

You are invited to bring your student to TEMS to pick up laptops, class schedules, and locker assignments on August 15, 16, or 19 between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. For more details, please refer to the email from TEMS Principal Dr. Anthony DiLella (a screenshot is included below for quick reference).

This is an excellent opportunity to review your student’s schedule and practice their locker combination. We highly recommend that your child logs into the laptop on-site during pickup to ensure they have access. Resolving any access issues before leaving can help avoid potential firewall problems at home.

If you're unable to visit during these times, don’t worry—attendance is not mandatory. The school will send your student’s schedule before the school year begins.

Please see the flyer below, for other important dates to mark on your calendar.

New to the School District

Welcome to the Tredyffrin/Easttown School District! The New Family Orientation will be held on August 21st at 1 PM. You'll receive additional details directly from the school.

The TEMS PTO Welcoming Committee is here to assist new families at Tredyffrin/Easttown Middle School. We’re happy to answer any questions and help with your transition. If you’re new to the district, you should have received a packet from us, either by mail or email from the TEMS main office. This packet contains valuable resources for adjusting to the school and community. You can review it quickly [here].

We host monthly New Family Coffees/Meetings—a great opportunity to mingle with fellow newcomers and our friendly Welcoming Committee members. Come and learn tips from veteran parents or simply drop in to connect with other new families. The next gathering is set for the evening of September 6th, 4:30 pm - 6:00pm. Keep an eye on the upcoming Sunday Blast for more details. Got questions? Feel free to reach out to our Welcoming Committee co-chairs, Deepti Singh (deepti_mails@yahoo.com) or Karen Zamperini (karenzamperini@gmail.com).

Prefer to connect with other parents through social media? We've got you covered! Join our district-level and grade-level parent Facebook groups to get plugged into the school community online. Check out the links below:

As you begin the school year, note that our district uses two programs: PowerSchool Portal and Schoology. PowerSchool provides access to student forms, bus information, and course schedules. Watch for emails from the school district for your login details. Schoology is used for school news, grades, and coursework updates.

Tips for Navigating TEMS

Stay in the loop!

Keep a lookout for this weekly highlights TEMS PTO Blast sent every Sunday afternoon. Checking Schoology and TEMS website are other ways you can be in the loop on what’s happening at TEMS.

Schoology
Kids use Schoology every day to see/submit their assignments, access electronic course materials, and get day-to-day announcements. Both you and your kids can sign up for notifications. There is also a Schoology App that both kids and parents can use!

TEMS Morning Announcements

Every day, students receive announcements and information about school activities through iTEMS videos. The text of these videos is available on TEMS school website and can serve as a valuable resource of information for students and families. The link to this morning announcements page is always included at the bottom as 'TE Bulletin' in Quick Links.

School Food Service

If you are not packing lunch visit the School Food Service webpage for breakfast/lunch options. SchoolCafé provides a secure, online system for parents to make payments to their  student(s) cafeteria-meal account. Follow this LINK to setup your online SchoolCafe account if you don't have one.

Please note that School Food Service page link is always available, at the bottom of the weekly Sunday newsletter, under quick links.

Dropping off something to school

If you need to go to school to drop off anything your child forgot, then please keep the following in mind.

Dropped off items are to be left on the table in the secure vestibule. Always label items you are dropping, with your students grade and full name.

Dropped off lunch is taken to cafeteria at 11 am so please make every effort to drop it off before 11 am. Also, remind your student that if they ever forget their lunch to look in the cafeteria at lunchtime. Remember that the cafeteria always has several options to order if ever needed.

Attendance

Attendance is taken in homeroom which is at 8:27 am. End of last period is at 3:10 pm on full days and 12:17 pm on half days.

All attendance communication goes through the attendance email at temattendance@tesd.net. Please email if your student will be late to school from an appointment, is leaving early due to an appointment, or is absent due to illness, appointment, or family emergency.

Here are the guidelines on this given by the school.

Early pickup

There will be days when you have to pickup your child early either for an appointment or an emergency. Please email temattendance@tesd.net and ask your child to stop by the office to pick up an early dismissal pass. If you send in a handwritten note, have your child drop it off in the office in the morning and they will get an early dismissal slip. Remind your child that once they have the dismissal slip they should come to the main office per given time. When you arrive for pickup, park your car in a parking spot and enter the secure vestibule by ringing the bell. Your child will be brought out to you at the requested time.

Remember to account for Conestoga High School traffic if you are planning on picking up your child close to end of school day.

Late drop-off

If your child will be late, please send an email to the attendance office at (temattendance@tesd.net) stating what time they will arrive and the reason they will be late. On arrival students should ring the bell to be buzzed in and go to the main office to receive hall pass.

Excused Absence

If you are traveling with your student and they will not be attending school for one or more days, please complete the Request for Excused Absence for Educational Travel and submit it to temattendance@tesd.net.

Traffic Flow

Here are some reminders from school administration.

For families driving their student to school: There will be traffic delays so plan accordingly. Remember homeroom begins at 8:27 a.m. Please DO NOT block ‘the box’ on Conestoga Road when entering and leaving the TEMS parking lot. All car traffic should enter the main one-way parking lot at the second left and follow all instructions by the security guard. Kindly pull up all the way in the drop off line in the parking lot. Please do not drive through the bus circle at any time!

Don't forget to watchout for student walkers crossing through the parking lot!

For students riding the bus to school: Be prepared for delays for the first few weeks. Please be patient and kind to your bus driver as they navigate new routes. Call transportation at 610-240-1680 if you have any concerns or questions regarding buses.
